Drop-in Classes
$12 per class

Bring your own drum. Limited number of rental drums available for $3 per class.

This all-levels class teaches technique, rhythms, history and culture of the djembe and dounoun. Class focuses on the music of Guinea, Mali, and Ivory Coast. No experience is necessary. Beginners are welcome.

Chuck Greb began playing West African music in 1997 with Nommo Performing Arts Company of Penn State University. Over the years Chuck has apprenticed with numerous drum teachers in the United States and Guinea, West Africa, including Lancei Kanté, M'Bemba Bangoura, Billy Camara, Menes Yahudah, Abdoul Doumbia, Lansana Dioubaté, and Michael Markus. He continues to travel to Guinea yearly in order to further his knowledge of this traditional art form.

Allyson Daniel is a Penn State Senior from Washington, DC. She plans to graduate this May with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre Performance. Her dance training began in High School at Duke Ellington School of the arts and has continued through Penn State. Allyson has the privilege of being President/Choreographer of NOMMO Performing Arts Dance Co., the student run African dance organization on campus. She has been teaching African Dance for the last two years, both at Penn State and back home in DC. During her time here at Penn State she received a huge portion of her African dance training under Kikora Franklin. She is honored to have this opportunity to teach.
